More Racer Photos

Snake photos.
This is the second page of photos of Racers -- Southern Black Racers and Everglades Racers.

My website contains personal photos of reptiles in the wild. All photos are taken by me and none of the animals is restrained in any way. No photo is manipulated.

 I use A Field Guide
to Snakes of Florida by Alan Tennant to identify snake species.

Very young racer in tree

This is an Everglades Racer.
Note that, unlike the Southern Black Racer, it has a light colored iris. (the part of the eye surrounding the pupil).

Everglades Racer
Coluber constrictor paludicola
6 July 2001 --- 10:10am
Along Canal C111 west of US1.
South Florida, only a few miles from the end of the mainland.

Racers in Georgia seem to be more calm than racers in south Florida. In south Florida they would never remain still while I approached with my camera.
Southern Black Racer
Coluber constrictor priapus
28 May 2004 along Alapaha River near Statenville, GA. 10:08am. 100mm lens, flash.

Southern Black Racer
Coluber constrictor priapus
31 March 2001 -- 11:25am -- Near Brooklyn, Alabama -- 135mm lens on helicoid with flash and tripod
I see this species a lot, but usually it does not allow me to get a good photograph.

This one stayed perfectly still and let me take many photos from all angles.

Close-up of same snake from opposite side.

The Southern Black Racer is found in a large area of the southeast USA.
