Captive California Kingsnake
Lampropeltis getula

This is a California Kingsnake which my nephew captured and is now keeping as a pet.

The California Kingsnake is a subspecies of the Common Kingsnake. The Eastern Kingsnake, of which I have a photo in my snakes of Florida and Georgia section, is also a subspecies of the Common Kingsnake.

I found this crossing Lovell Canyon Road which is 24 miles west of the Silverton Hotel in Las Vegas on highway 160.

I received an email from someone who said he was 50% sure that this is a mature male Aphonopelma palladium. (He was 100% sure of the genus and sex.)

Jerusalem Cricket aka Potato Bug     Genus: Stenopelmatus
Found by my brother-in-law while lifting wood looking for Alligator Lizards.

Yosemite National Park   ---   Half-dome

I visited Yosemite National Park with my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew on Saturday, 11 Oct 2003.

The large (like 3000-foot tall) rock in the center is Half Dome.

Last three photos are from Hoover Dam

On Thursday, 16 October 2003, I visited Hoover Dam.
I flew home on Friday.

16 Oct 2003 --- 28mm lens

Hoover Dam is about 30 miles SE of Las Vegas.
The west side of the dam is in Nevada, the east side Arizona.
Highway US93 crosses the top of the dam.

16 Oct 2003 --- 28mm lens This is looking west at the dam from the Arizona side.

The four things in the water are water intake towers which deliver water to the generators.

Looking north from the top of the dam toward Lake Mead. 16 Oct 2003 --- 9:39am --- 50mm lens
